Shooting the messenger.....................

.

A couple of days ago I inadvertently barged in on a small group discussing the shenanigans of Baba Ramdev. He was labelled a nincompoop and various other names, accompanied by derisive laughter.
I remained silent and the only one to do so and my silence was noticed with some surprise. Was I a chela of the Guru? Did I admire the yogi? By my silence I was trying to indicate that while Ramdev, need not necessarily be a role model for the general public to emulate, the message that he was trying to pass on to the lay Indian was very important and worth attention.
Corruption has hit me, the middle class Indian the hardest and I'm interested in anybody who speaks up against the corrupt in this country.
Ramdev has got corruption to the centre stage and has the powers to be worried and thinking. In short he has pushed them out of their comfort zones and there is hope that we might see a less corrupt society and more value for our money.
It is important to closely look at the message rather than shooting the messenger from the hip and losing what could be a game changer.
Let's not shoot the messenger just as yet, folk!

Substancxe is the key as we discussed and agreed.

Looking at a person's background and his disposition are serious distractions.

We generally tend to focus on irrelevant and forget to grasp the important.

Hi Nagaraj,

Yes i agree with you we are shooting the messenger and media also plays a role in putting opinions in our mouth directly.

I thought if he had joined with Anna and together they fought it would have been better. Anna's movement looks like , it is weakened and diluted. I felt Ramdev wanted to do separately and garner all the limelight. But still the movement has started and it can go from strength to strength. Regards Padmanabh

I agree, I don't give a damn about him being a face of RSS or any such political malice that he might have been involved in till he is trying to fight for a cause that has disturbed the common man for ages - corruption! I actually support his propositions of declaring the black money stashed abroad as a National property. We'r talking about 9 trillion USD here. Imagine how it would affect the progress in our country!

CAPT,
I couldn't have agreed with you more on this. However, bringing pressure on the government to act on black money and corruption is one thing;dictating the terms and mode of action is another. The movement is tending to become another stick to beat the ruling party with. Unfortunately,Anna,Baba Ramdev et al.are letting themselves into this trap.

The danger always exists, but that is the price we have to pay. The system has to be shocked into action and addressing corruption.

I agree it is stretching things when you ask for the death penalty for corruption.

My point is look at the issue rather than the actors.
